Our History

We held our first inaugural Church service on Sunday, June 14th, 2016 with about 50 attendants. We started with two core leaders; later the former Small Group Leaders from Victory World Church joined me as we stepped up to answer the call to plant OneGate Church at a rented Fellowship Hall inside Eastminster Presbyterian Church campus. The two families and my family comprised of 9 founding members of OneGate Church.

Naturally, we adopted the church structure and teaching pattern of our contemporary mother church - Victory Church. The church went through typical startup church struggles with people joining and leaving the church. The church membership with regular attendants remained constant at 25+/- with 3 or 4 core leaders doing most of the church operation duties.

In about two years later, the attendants were not more than just the core leaders with their families which discouraged some of us, and eventually, some of the core leaders went back to Victory Church, (our mother church). I was very concerned about the up and down outcome of the church, but the prophetic word that I received was that this is not what the Lord has called me to do.

By December 2018, we took a sabbatical to pray with other Pastor/anointed friends to seek the Lord for clarity of my calling. It was during this sabbatical season that I was able to reflect on the Lord’s last message to me about the kind of church that He wanted me to plant.

Very early one morning in 2015, during my morning devotional hour, the Lord Jesus spoke to me directly; He said (paraphrasing) “I am sending you the plant that I created; do not plant this church like other churches because that is not the pattern of the Church that I created. He said, follow the way of the churches that I have created in the New Testament; that’s the way you should go.

Finally, He said that He is sending me out amid wolves of this world, “be wise as serpents and gentle as a dove for I am with you.” I often wonder why He didn’t say “Be Strong and Courageous”???

This monologue lasted for about 15 to 30 minutes with my eyes closed throughout the encounter. I was frozen and lost track of time throughout the encounter. The name OneGate Church was given to me by the Lord in reference to John 10:10 “I am the Gate….,” to clarify, the Lord did not reject ownership of the other Churches, He only gave me an assignment to plant churches the way He created His Church, which is the early churches in the New Testament.

I did not intentionally disobey the Lord because I tried imbibed some of the elements of the early church fellowship by having a fellowship feast of food after each service and preaching relational one-another messages or doing life-giving small group studies and various community activities in the community…..but I failed to go the way I was directed by the Lord.

Further research led me to House or Cell Church with several books on the Restoration Movements for the Early House Churches in America and around the world. Suddenly, the light bulb went off about the type of church Jesus created which is the way that the Lord directed me to go. So, my beloved brothers and sisters in the Lord, this is it for me and I pray you to come and join me as we follow Jesus in planting churches The Jesus Way!
